Maritime transport is the main route for global trade, but it generates 3% of global carbon dioxide emissions, establishing the need to reduce this figure in order to meet environmental sustainability goals and combat climate change. The study seeks to analyze strategies for the decarbonization of maritime transport and its impact on environmental sustainability, operating costs and compliance with international regulations. A qualitative, descriptive and cross-sectional approach was usedapplying the information saturation technique to extract 32 references. The strategies focused on improving energy efficiency, the use of alternative fuels and the implementation of emission reduction technologies, highlighting ship design, propulsion systems and the improvement of routes and navigation planning. The study shows that high levels of investment are needed for the development and adoption of carbon-free technologies. International regulations, although necessary, must be balanced so as not to negatively affect the competitiveness of the sector, since full decarbonization requires a global effort, continuous innovation and public policies that improve the transition towards sustainable maritime navigation.
